In search of a better nights sleep

Dennis and I did some mattress shopping on Saturday. Eleven years ago we were encouraged to buy an Englander mattress. The salesperson promised us that this mattress would last forever and that it was the best mattress out there and that we would sleep like babies on it and that we would win the lottery and that....

The salesperson was wrong. It wasn't the best mattress, we didn't sleep like babies on it and we didn't win the lottery.

Over the years we put up with the mattress. I was bothered with morning back, neck and shoulder pain much more than Dennis and so the female nature in me chose to just put up with it.

Well I'm tired of putting up with it and we are now shopping around for a new mattress. What a fun chore. How can I believe anything the web or the salesperson has to say about a mattress? How can I tell how this mattress will feel after laying on it for 7-8 hours, when I lie on it for 10 minutes in the store and the salesperson is yakking at me while i'm laying there?

What a difference in prices. We can spend anywhere from $800-4000 on a mattress set.

We've ruled out the sleep number bed without even trying it out. We decided that we needed to stick with the traditional type of mattress. That decision also ruled out the memory foam/tempurpedic type mattress. Call us old fashioned but that is where we are at...

I believe I have it narrowed down to two different brands, Simmons and Stearns and Foster. Now I just have to go back to the store and lay down for a bit...
