...Dennis and I embarked on an adventure that has forever changed our lives. We agreed to take care of, whelp, and raise a litter of puppies! The Momma was Bailey, my stepson John's yellow lab. The Pappa was Cooper, our friend Doug's yellow lab. Dennis crafted a whelping box and I researched the care of a pregnant canine, and the whelping and raising of puppies. Early in the morning on March 14, 2005 Bailey gave birth (with us watching) to 10 little yellow lab puppies. There were 6 male and 4 female. There was so little time between each pup that Dennis and I had to help them with initial nursing. The experience was so much fun, I would do it again in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented itself.
Out of this litter came our second dog, Dakota. Over the next several days I'll post pictures and stories of his (and his siblings) early days.
