More Metabolism Makeover-Hormone mimicking chemicals

Hormone disruptors (or mimickers) are man made chemicals (think plastic!) that not only have the ability to alter human hormone balance but are making us fatter!

Harmful effects of these chemicals are: increased weight gain (especially around the middle), prolonged or exaggerated symptoms of perimenopause, rise in breast cancer, andropause (male menopause) and early puberty in girls.

Common sources:

  • Beef and dairy (buy hormone and antibiotic free beef and dairy!)
  • Plastic-only use glass or ceramic in the microwave, no plastic containers or wrap, don't leave plastic water bottles in your car where they can get hot. Heating up plastic causes the chemicals to leak into your food/beverage
  • Petroleums and Phthalates-common in many cosmetics and lotions, especially chap stick (think vaseline, carmex is bad...Burts Bee's is good!)
  • Pesticides, herbicides and fungicides-Soak all produce in vinegar water (1 cup vinegar in full sink of water)
  • Solvent and adhesive fumes-When painting or putting in new carpet, place a few more live green plants in the room, they will absorb the fumes and clean up the air.

Very good information from my class last weekend. One other thing to keep in mind..the heating of plastic includes those Weight watcher and Lean Cuisine frozen dinners...take them out of the plastic container and heat it up on a plate!

Next topic will be ridding your body of toxins...
