"When he painted Tanneke she stood there happily pouring milk for months without a thought passing through that head, God love her."

An interesting thing happened at Book Club the other night. The book for May was Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier. The story is a fictional account of the subject of Dutch artist Johannes Vermeers painting of a girl with a pearl earring.
Anyway, I was the host as I had picked the book. The restaurant was Pannekoeken (a dutch pancake house) which was picked because of the Dutch correlation to the book. We sat and ate and discussed and laughed and carried on for quite awhile until Kristi got up to go to the bathroom. On her way back she noticed the painting The Milkmaid hanging in the restaurant not too far from our table!! We were so excited! We wanted to get a picture of our group in front of the painting...but there was an elderly couple eating at the table right in front of the painting....DANG!!! They didn't show promise of leaving at all either.
I had no idea that the painting was hanging in the restaurant...
