I temporarily forgot about this subject! Now that American idol is over, I can finish blogging about this class that I took in April, taught by Janice Novak. I will blog about tornados tomorrow, once I get my pictures off the camera. Dennis has the camera with him at his bike class tonight. We didn't actually see any tornados but there were very interesting storm clouds and we thought we would see a tornado based on weather reports...
Anyway on with the subject:
Ways to control your appetite without willpower:
1. Eat foods high in fiber, nutrients and phytochemicals. Don't microwave your fruits or vegetables, it destroys antioxidants.
2. Include essential fatty acids in your diet. They help keep you fuller longer. Examples: omega 3,CLA, GLA, Alpha lipoic Acid, Olive oil.
3. Include PGX (polyGlycoplex), Konjac root, or Rye. These fibers absorb sugar and fat in the gut.
4. Balance insulin and glucagon levels (i.e decrease amts of sugar, refined carbs and include quality protein with every meal and snack)
5. Don't eat foods that contain High Fructose Corn Syrup or corn syrup listed in the first five ingredients. Corn syrup prevents leptin from reachin brain cells and Leptin will tell your brain that you are full and that you need to stop eating. A lot of foods labled "low fat" have corn syrup in them, so read your labels carefully!
6. Drink plenty of water. Water helps your metabolism
7. Herbs that impact appetite control: green tea, fenugreek, parsley, cinnamon.
8. Eat 2-3 walnuts 20-30 minutes before eating. There is a compound in walnuts that prevents ghrelin from getting to your brain. Ghrelin tells your brain that you are hungry.
9. Nuts and seeds are an excellent midafternoon snack, but no more than a handful and unsalted are best!
I think I can wind this topic up in one more blog entry. Stay tuned for ten metabloic boosters and some information on saliva hormone testing!
