Today was my first full day in San Francisco. My class started at 0730. The promised "continental breakfast" consisted of croissants, bagels, coffee, and juice. No plates, no napkins. Scary nurse moment was the lady changing her shoes at the bagel table...while toasting her bagel of course! Yes, this is an Infection Prevention and Control Nurse.
I hadn't been impressed with the hotel food the night before so at lunchtime I walked around and found a dive/greasy spoon called Hanks Eats...which was much more impressive! I had a chicken dijon sandwich, french fries and a diet coke!
I stayed in my class until 1:30 and then I just couldn't stand it and played hooky the rest of the afternoon. I decided that the best time for me to venture out and explore on my own was in the afternoon. So, I took off on foot and walked all over through Nob Hill, Union Square, Chinatown etc. I surfed a few shops (Barneys, Banana Republic, Fresh, Juicy Couture) but didn't buy anything...I'm a bargain shopper and these were not bargain shops! Then I stopped at a place called Uncle Vitos and had fried ravioli (like a mozzerella stick only ravioli) and a beer, before venturing uphill again. If I lived in downtown San Francisco I would be skinny....those hills are some leg and glute killers!
I had bought a 3 day cable car/busline pass so I decided to use it and hopped on a cable car for a ride back to the hotel. The picture above is not the cable car I was on, but one that went by as I was walking around.
Tomorrow I'm thinking about taking the cable car down to Fishermans Wharf. The agenda for my class tomorrow looks like something I need to stay the whole day for, though.
